Tereo — Bible Memorization

Terms of Service

Effective 10 August 2026

These terms govern your use of the Tereo app for mobile devices and any related services (together, the "Application"), which are operated by Ben Ellis (the "Service Provider"). Please read them before using the Application.

By downloading, opening or using the Application you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the Application.

Who can use Tereo

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you may use the Application only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms on your behalf.

Much of the Application works without an account, and progress made signed out stays on your device.

Your account

You can create an account with an email address and password, with Sign in with Apple, or with Google Sign-In. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity that happens under your account.

Please give accurate information when you sign up, and tell the Service Provider if you believe someone else has accessed your account.

You can delete your account and its data at any time from Settings inside the Application. Deletion is permanent — progress, streaks and friend connections cannot be recovered afterwards.

What is free and what is paid

Tereo is free to download. The free tier includes the daily verse, the lesson stages, and a selection of the Bible — Psalms, John and Romans — at no cost.

On the free tier, a wrong answer costs a heart. You start with five, and one returns every four hours. When you run out you can wait for them to refill, or subscribe.

Tereo Pro is a paid subscription. It adds:

The features included in the free and paid tiers may change over time. If a feature you already paid for is removed during a subscription period, you may cancel and request a refund through the store you bought it from.

Subscriptions, billing and cancellation

Subscriptions are sold through the App Store or Google Play, not directly by the Service Provider. The prices, currency and billing period shown at the moment of purchase are the ones that apply.

You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple or Google account settings — not inside Tereo. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and Pro stays active until that period ends.

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. The Service Provider cannot issue refunds for store purchases, but will help you raise one where it can.

Prices may change. Where a change affects a subscription you already hold, you will be notified and given the chance to cancel before it takes effect, as your app store requires.

How you may use the Application

The Service Provider grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Application on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use.

You agree not to:

Profiles, leaderboards and conduct

If you use the leaderboard or add friends, your username, display name, avatar, streak and experience points are visible to other users. Choose a username and display name you are comfortable being seen.

Names and profile details must not be obscene, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, deceptive, or an impersonation of somebody else, and must not infringe anyone’s trademark or other rights.

The Service Provider may remove or change a name that breaks these rules, and may suspend or terminate an account for repeated or serious breaches. Where the account was paid for, any refund for the unused period is handled by your app store under its policies.

Tereo has no messaging, no posts and no uploads. The only thing you submit that other people see is your username, display name and avatar choice, and the only use made of them is showing them to other users of the Application in the leaderboard and friends features. No wider licence over anything you submit is asked for or taken.

Reporting and appeals

If you believe a name or an account breaks these rules or the law, report it by email. Please include enough detail to identify what you are reporting and to come back to you if more is needed.

tereosupport@gmail.com

Reports are reviewed by a person, not automatically. You will get an acknowledgement and a decision without undue delay.

If something of yours is removed, or your account is restricted or suspended, you will be told what was done, why, and on what basis. You can ask for that decision to be looked at again by replying to the same address, and you will be given the reasons for the outcome. None of this affects any right you have to take a complaint elsewhere, including to a court or to a dispute-resolution body available to you under the law of your country.

Scripture and other content

Bible text in the Application is the World English Bible, which is in the public domain. Spoken verse audio is generated using ElevenLabs.

Everything else — the lessons, the units and pathways, the doctrinal summaries, the artwork, the mascot, the sounds and the software itself — belongs to the Service Provider or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws.

Tereo is a memorisation and study aid. Its explanatory material reflects a historic Christian understanding of the passages it covers, is offered for education, and is not pastoral, counselling, medical, legal or financial advice. It is not a substitute for your own reading, or for guidance from your church or a qualified professional.

Microphone and speech

Some stages ask you to say a verse aloud so it can be scored. This uses your device’s microphone, only while a speaking stage is open, and how the audio is handled is described in the privacy policy. You may decline microphone access — the speaking stages are skipped and the rest of the Application works normally.

Speech scoring is automated and imperfect. A recitation may occasionally be marked wrong when it was right, or the reverse.

Your device, connection and data charges

Parts of the Application need an internet connection — signing in, syncing progress, leaderboards and some verse audio. The Service Provider is not responsible if these do not work because you have no connection or have run out of data.

If you use the Application outside a Wi-Fi network, your mobile operator’s charges apply, including any roaming charges. By using the Application away from Wi-Fi you accept responsibility for those charges. If you are not the bill payer for the device, you are taken to have their permission.

You are responsible for keeping your device charged and working. If it runs out of power or breaks and you cannot open the Application, the Service Provider is not responsible for that.

The Service Provider is not responsible for problems caused by a jailbroken or rooted device, or by modifications to your device’s operating system.

Third-party services

The Application relies on services operated by others, each under its own terms. Continued use of the Application means you accept those terms as well.

The Service Provider does not control these services and is not responsible for them, but is responsible for choosing to use them.

Updates and availability

The Application may be updated from time to time. Some updates are needed for it to keep working, and an out-of-date version may stop functioning correctly. You are asked to install updates when they are offered.

The Service Provider may change, suspend or stop offering the Application, or any part of it, at any time, and does not promise it will always be available or free of interruption. If the Application is withdrawn altogether, you will be given reasonable notice where possible, your licence to use it ends, and you should uninstall it. Any subscription you hold will be dealt with in line with your app store’s policies.

Ending these terms

You may stop using the Application at any time by deleting your account and uninstalling it.

If you materially break these terms, the Service Provider will tell you what the problem is, and where it can be put right you have 14 days from that notice to do so. If it is not put right in that time, your access may be ended.

Access may be suspended or ended straight away, without that notice period, where you break the law, infringe someone’s intellectual property, or do something that risks harm to other users or to the Service Provider.

When these terms end, your licence to use the Application ends with them and you should uninstall it. Sections that by their nature should outlast them — ownership, disclaimers, limits on liability, indemnification and governing law — continue to apply.

Disclaimer

The Application is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service Provider makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement, and does not warrant that the Application will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that scoring, streaks or progress will always be accurate.

The Service Provider takes care to keep your data safe, but does not guarantee against loss. Keeping your own record of anything you would be sorry to lose is sensible.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service Provider is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost data, lost progress or lost profits, arising from your use of the Application.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the Application in the twelve months before the claim, or ten US dollars.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, you keep every right the law of your country gives you, and nothing here affects those rights.

Indemnification

To the fullest extent the law allows, you agree to cover the Service Provider against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising directly from your breach of these terms or your deliberate misuse of the Application.

This does not apply to anything arising from the Service Provider’s own negligence, its own breach of these terms, or its own breach of the law. Where the law limits what a consumer can be asked to indemnify, this clause applies only as far as that law allows.

Privacy

How your information is collected, used and shared is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. It is available in Settings inside the Application.

Apple App Store

If you downloaded the Application from the App Store, these terms are between you and the Service Provider, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the Application or its content, and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Apple’s standard licence terms also apply to the extent these terms do not replace them:

Apple Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of the State of Texas have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence.

Severability

If any part of these terms turns out to be invalid or unenforceable, it is narrowed only as far as is needed to make it work, and the rest of the terms carry on unaffected.

The whole agreement

These terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement between you and the Service Provider about your use of the Application, and replace anything said or agreed before. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The current version is always shown here with its effective date. Material changes will be brought to your attention inside the Application before they take effect, and continuing to use it afterwards means you accept them.

Previous versions are kept and are available on request from the address below.
