Tereo — Bible Memorization

Privacy Policy

Effective 27 September 2026

This privacy policy applies to the Tereo app for mobile devices, together with any related services operated by Ben Ellis (collectively, the "Application"). Ben Ellis is referred to below as the "Service Provider".

What the Application collects

Tereo can be used without an account. If you use it signed out, your progress stays on your device and nothing is sent to the Service Provider.

If you create an account, the following is stored:

As with any internet service, the servers that hold this data receive your device’s IP address in order to respond to it.

The Application uses PostHog for basic product analytics such as which features are used. Automatic capture of taps and screens, and session replay (screen recording), are both switched off — analytics events are only sent when the Application explicitly logs one.

If your device is set to a region in the EEA or UK, analytics is off until you actively allow it in a one-time prompt on first launch. Everywhere else, analytics is on by default, consistent with this policy. Either way, you can turn it on or off at any time under Settings → Preferences → Analytics.

Voice and microphone

Some lessons ask you to say a verse aloud so it can be scored. This uses the microphone, and only while a speaking stage is open.

Where your device supports on-device speech recognition, Tereo asks for it, and the audio never leaves your phone. Where it does not, recognition is performed by your device’s own speech service — Apple’s on iOS, Google’s on Android — which may involve sending the audio to those companies under their own privacy policies.

On a small number of devices where neither is available, the recording is uploaded to the Service Provider’s server and passed to ElevenLabs for transcription. It is used only to score that attempt and is not stored afterwards.

You can decline microphone access. The speaking stages are skipped and the rest of the app works normally.

How the information is used

Reminders you turn on are scheduled by your device itself. They do not involve a server and nothing is collected in order to send them.

Artificial intelligence

The Application uses AI services in two places: generating the spoken audio of a verse, and scoring a verse you recite. Both are provided by ElevenLabs. Verse text sent for audio is public-domain scripture. Audio sent for scoring is covered under "Voice and microphone" above.

Who the information is shared with

The Service Provider does not sell your personal information. It is shared with the following services, each of which handles it under its own privacy policy:

Supabase privacy policy

ElevenLabs privacy policy

RevenueCat privacy policy

PostHog privacy policy

Apple privacy policy

Google privacy policy

The Service Provider may also disclose information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process; where there is a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to protect rights or safety, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

What other users can see

If you use the leaderboard or add friends, your username, display name, avatar, streak and XP are visible to other users of the Application. Your email address is never shown to other users.

International data transfers

The services above may process personal data in countries outside your country of residence, including outside the European Economic Area. Where applicable law requires safeguards for such transfers, the Service Provider relies on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, adequacy decisions, or other legally recognised mechanisms.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and may withdraw consent where processing is based on it. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out.

If you are a California resident, you also have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, the right to opt out of its sale or sharing, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. The Service Provider does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA.

To exercise any of these rights, get in touch:

tereosupport@gmail.com

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and its data from inside the Application, under Settings. This removes your profile, progress, streaks and friend connections from the server, and clears what is stored on your device.

Uninstalling the Application stops any further collection from your device, but does not by itself delete data already stored on the server — use the in-app deletion, or email the address above.

How long data is kept

Security

The Service Provider uses reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information it holds, including transport encryption and access controls on the database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

If a breach affecting your personal data occurs, you will be notified in accordance with applicable legal requirements.

Children

The Application is not directed to children under 13, or such higher age as local law requires, and the Service Provider does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Where parental or guardian consent is required by law, the Application is not intended for use without it.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information, please get in touch and it will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date, and where the law requires it, your consent will be sought before they take effect. Previous versions are available on request.
